I think that’s what awareness with our blind spots feels like.

So for me, when I think about blind spots, it’s things that I’m not doing well are things I’m stepping over and pretending you’re okay when maybe they just really need my attention. Once I admit my mistake, then I can step back into power and actually solve the problem.

Something goes wrong all the time. I mean, there’s just so many moving parts. And so if I’m relating to the problem, and I can take a step back and look at it, usually there’s a really easy solution. So usually five minutes after the uh-oh, or the not feeling good is Oh, wow, that’s even better. Isn’t that great? There’s actually some positive that comes out of it.

Business planning is really important, personal priority list, again, going back to time blocking going, what am I doing all day so that I’m not constantly at the whim of a client or the next phone call or the next thing that comes up. It’s so much easier. There’s actually more time in my day when I do that. I mean, there aren’t more hours but it feels like there’s twice as much time in my day when I take the time to think about what do I want to be doing?

What do you think is your own greatest leadership blind spot?
The ability to own up to our weaknesses as leaders provides us with important information. Where we react, avoid, even power through are areas that put the choices we make on weak ground. The more we can embrace our whole self means that we are also more prepared to accept others and their own blind spots.
